Nick - We've got fuck all. Laura can't find him anywhere in the city which doesn't mean he isn't here but that he might be moving around or something is covering his scent. We knew that was a long shot. Natalie Gleason claimed no knowledge of his whereabouts and until we can track down that other guy who was leading the charge at graduation we've got no other leads to keep this going. I think I'm going to need to pull the plug on this one unless any of you have any brilliant ideas we haven't thought of yet?

Telford Porter - Doug's gotten us the first week retainer to look into the guy. Let's get the basics done first: background check, figure out where and how he makes his money, obvious connections to people/businesses, etc. Bishop, can you see if he has any warrants out on him or any sort of wrap sheet as well?

If anyone else has anything to add chime in now.

The updates are pretty overwhelming: We've got nothing.

Bishop turned up nothing on warrants for his arrest, actual arrests, hospitals or morgues. Jean-Paul found out absolutely nothing useful from the family other than that none of them like mutants or that Nick's parents were pro-mutant. And I've got nothing from Sun Prairie. No one's heard of or heard from him since he left there.

All we really know is that he may or may not be alive but we're pretty sure if he's dead his body hasn't been found, he hasn't been arrested in the tri-state area or hospitalized in it either. I'll check in with Kurt to see if he wants us to keep digging or not and get back to you guys.

The Vaughns (maternal grandparents) know nothing. They did not maintain contact with the grandchildren after the parents died. The paternal grandparents know nothing, having had less contact with the grandchildren than the Vaughns. I did not get the feeling that either set of grandparents were lying or hiding information. Found addresses for the aunt and uncle in a book at the Gleason residence. I will be flying to them this evening.

None of the family members that I spoke with were pleased with Nick's family's pro-mutant stance, though.

Sun Prairie is kinda cute in that small town, middle of the country way. And that's pretty much the most useful thing I've got about the place. Almost no one talked to or hung out with Nick. He's got a couple old teachers who liked him, a few who barely remember him if at all and a couple old HS friends who haven't spoken to him really since he left town. I can tell you more about his parents' death than about him. No one's seen or heard anything since he left here. But one of his friend's dads asked me on a date. Oddly inappropriate, I think.

I'm going to be hopping a plane at the crack of dawn tomorrow to head off to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. I'm going to sniff around Nick's old school and all that. Maybe he went back. It's got about 2,500 people and 31 sq miles, I shouldn't be gone more than a couple days.

Jean-Paul, I want you to check out the extended family. The maternal grandparents are in Chicago, Martha and Michael Vaughn. The Gleason relatives are all over Illinois. The Gleason grandparents are in Aurora, IL and their kids Greg and Stephanie I can't find definite addresses for but they're in state. Maybe you can snoop around the grandparents' place and find addresses. I've got numbers for them, though. There will be an envelope on my desk waiting for you with all the information I've got on the various family members. I want you headed out by tomorrow night at the latest.

I just received an e-mail from Kurt Sefton over at Xavier's. He's hiring us to search for his missing adoptive son. Kurt's been hunting for him and I know Catseye went looking for him and hasn't returned. There have been no leads at all from what I know so the case is cold already. Which means we're probably not going to turn up much that's useful.

Kurt's coming over Tuesday to pay the first week retainer and drop off a file with everything he knows. I'm going to be looking into tracking down whether or not the kid has any living family between now and then so that we'll hopefully have something to look into already by time I'm reviewing his file.

I don't think he's going to want us to give up after a week but a lot of costs can be kept down by having Jean-Paul look into anything that would require a plane ticket otherwise. And it's Kurt. He works for Xavier, he's an X-Man, as far as I'm concerned he gets the family discount after week one. I'm not sure how much that hacks off the price for him yet, but I'll figure it out.
